"Blessing of the Animals"
for the Feast of St. Francis
Rev. Sherry is quickly making a mark at Trinity. Saturday's Blessing of the Animals was no less than the fourth special service she's performed in just over a month on the job. Using a text adapted from the 2007 Blessing of the Animals Service held at the Duke University Chapel, she gave great comfort to the animal lovers in the congregation... though some of the animals seemed to enjoy the occasion much more than others. The dogs enjoyed the fellowship and the doggie treats. The cats ... not so much...

The Feast of St. Michael and All Angels
Praise be to Zephyrus, Central Virginia's early music ensemble, and to our own Bill Anderson for the truly lovely musical settings of canticles in the Book of Common Prayer's Rite I evensong service. It's not often that we get to hear the rolling phrases of Rite I in these modern times, but the evensong service provided the perfect opportunity to "turn back the hands of time."

Images of St. Michael, angel figurines, and Virgin Mary statuettes were blessed on St. Michael Sunday.

Rev. Allan Johnson-Taylor Returns
for Trinity Homecoming Service

The parking lot was overflowing and the sanctuary was full as members of Trinity, past and present, returned to celebrate "Homecoming Sunday," a special observance of Trinity's founding 89 years ago in August 1919. The day was made even more special by the return of Rev. Allan Johnson-Taylor, who served as the assistant vicar of Trinity from 1993-95. In the proud tradition of Trinity "saints" such as Ethel Edloe, Clarence "Butch" Jones, James Hicks, and Joan Jackson, Trinity rolled out the red carpet for Rev. Allan, and for his beautiful wife Donna, and four-year-old son, Benjamin. Click here for a gallery of photos. Soon we'll also have a link to Allan's inspirational message.
The Trinity Family Asks Prayers
on Behalf of Roxie Moore

This message appeared on Charlottesville's Freedom of Speech wall the morning after LeRoi's death.
The crowd that turned out for the celebration o LeRoi Moore's life was 1,000 strong, said Deborah Bell-Burks of Bell Funeral Home. Accommodating so many put significant pressure on our resources, but the Trinity community came together beautifully to support the Moore and Holloway families. Our sincere thanks to the Rev. Sherry Hardwick Thomas for serving so beautifully and welcoming all to the communion table; to the Rev. Bill Guthrie for his eulogy and the Rev. Nana Ghartey for assisting; to the many Trinity leaders and workers who took time off from jobs to serve as ushers and organizers; and to the choir for rounding up friends of LeRoi and friends from other choirs to make a joyful noise in the First Baptist-Park Street sanctuary. The Inspiration Award definitely goes to Shirley Thompson for arriving in a wheelchair to sing! And always, our most loving prayers and deepest condolences to the Moore and Holloway families.
