Trinity EC's "Homecoming" Sunday

We don't know the exact date that Trinity Episcopal Church came into being, but diocesan records show that in August 1919 the first services were held in Charlottesville's "colored" Odd Fellows Hall. In commemoration and celebration of our nearly 90-year history, Trinity designated August 24, 2008, as "Friends and Family Day," a service of homecoming and renewal.

Looking Back and Moving Forward!

Sanctuary

Trinity's friends and extended family turned out in force to welcome back Rev. Allan Johnson-Taylor, who spent two memorable years with us as assistant pastor from 1993-95.

Senior Chimers

The Senior Chimers filled the sanctuary with joyous sounds and Bill Anderson sung a stirring solo on "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less."

Reception

Then in true Trinity style, everyone gathered at the welcome table and shared a delicious repast.

Little angels

Benjamin Johnson-Taylor, left, made the acquaintance of some of the youngest members of Trinity: Cole Fairchild, center, and Sam Cochran.

Old Friends

Clarice Jones Torian and Richard Johnson swapped reminiscences from first grade through high school graduation. "She was a cheerleader, and I was the drum major in the band. We used to cut up and tell jokes in the back of the school bus," Richard chuckled.

Old Friends

Virginia Germino, right, and Lelia Brown settled down for a cozy chat over the truly delicious chicken salad sandwiches. Ethel Edloe (Lelia's mother and the queen of hospitality at Trinity) would have been proud.

Old friends

Alda Hicks made a special trip back to Charlottesville for the fun event. She's talking to Paul Lee, whose mother, Drucilla Hollins Lee, is one of only four women still living who were baptized at Trinity between 1938 and 1948.

Old friends

Teresa Price, baptized at Trinity in 1938, enjoys a laugh with Harold Folley Jr. and his sons.

Allan Johnson-Taylor

But the man of the hour was Allan Johnson-Taylor, who reminded us of who we were and gave us courage to move forward, through ReVision, to God's promise for Trinity.
