Trinity Episcopal Church is a lively, intergenerational, joyful congregation in Charlottesville, Virginia. We are a eucharistically-based community of neighbors and families celebrating different understandings of the Christian faith within the Episcopal Church.

Now more than 100 years old, Trinity was established as an African American mission church. It played a leading role in civil rights and social justice in a city scarred by the massive resistance to school integration in the late 1950s, and by the “urban renewal” that virtually destroyed the middle-class African American business and housing community (including the original site of Trinity) in the early 1960s. At that time, Trinity's membership intentionally sought to embrace reconciliation by reaching out to our white partners in civil rights work to create a multicultural church. More recently, Trinity's Bread & Roses ministry and White Feather Historical & Educational Project have worked to address local manifestations of structural and institutional racism.

We welcome visitors to Sunday worship and fellowship, beginning at 10:30 am.

Pastor Cass Bailey and Kristan Pitts, Bread & Roses coordinator at Trinity Episcopal Church, lead this eight-week small group program to explore racial justice through the lens of the Christian faith.

This program awakens groups to the economic systems, public policies, cultural norms and hidden biases that empower some and oppress others. Learn a framework for understanding and recognizing racial disparities in power and privilege, and dive into specific issues related to these dynamics, including affirmative action, the school-to-prison pipeline, the criminal justice system and powerful biases in media representation.

Faith & Racial Equity began during Lent and continues through April. It is never too late to join! You may attend in person at Trinity on Sunday mornings (9 to 10:15 am), or via Zoom on Wednesday evenings (6:30 to 8 pm).
